Welcome to Wile's Lake Farm Market, a business just entering its second chapter of life with new owners Adrien and Sarah Van Dyk. Adrien and Sarah took over the business in March 2023 and are excited about learning the "market business" and meeting customers during the coming season. The Market was started in 1985 by Elspeth McLean-Wile and her husband Peter; Elspeth continues to help out during this transition year.
The Market has a long history of sourcing locally grown produce and food from farmers and makers in the Lunenburg County and western Nova Scotia. We also stock an assortment of jams, pickles, mustards, cheeses, meats, and other groceries sourced from Maritime province producers.
From opening day in 1985, the bakery has been an important part of the market. The breads and sweets we bake today are based on the same recipes used in 1985. They are traditional recipes producing breads and cookies like our grandmothers made in their kitchens. We are famous for our old fashioned donuts. There have been additions to the bakery offering but our brown bread continues to be our most famous product.
The Garden Centre business was added in 1989 and like the rest of the business, it continues to expand offering a great selection of annuals, perennials, vegetable transplants, hanging baskets and planters along with a good selection of gardening supplies including seeds.
Our market kitchen is famous for its comfort food offerings. Each day we produce soups, baked beans, chicken pot pie, mac and cheese and much more more - all prepared to take home and reheat. There is potato salad and a variety of other salads to pair up with your main dishes. We produce hearty sandwiches on our own fresh bread. We look forward to greeting you this season.
