'On any given early morning during the market season, our bakers and kitchen staff are busy preparing baked goods and comfort food for the day ahead. By 8 am, bread, muffins, and cookies are coming out of the oven to cool. Our cooks are in the kitchen chopping and stirring — there is always a large pot of soup or chili simmering on the big gas range and something savoury and cheesy bubbling under the broiler. As you can imagine, the smell is incredible. By 10 am, our bakery shelves are chockful with bread, muffins, rolls and sweets, and the cafe refrigerators and freezers packed. Most of our baked goods and prepared foods are based on traditional Nova Scotia family recipes using regional ingredients. Our brown bread is legendary. Our baked beans have their own fan club. Our seasonal blueberry cake tastes like a Maritime summer. Rumour has it that a Lunenburg county baby’s first words were Chicken Apple Soup. People have offered large bribes for our Cucumber Salad recipe. Everyone who shops at the market has their favourite. One older gentleman drops in almost every day for his lasagne. At the end of the market season, customers stock up on bread, cinnamon buns, soups. and Peter’s Chili for their freezer — a winter without Wile's Lake Farm Market baked goods and food is, well — a cold winter indeed. You can also drop by for a take-out coffee and bakery treat to break up your work or shopping day. And what can we say about our sandwiches? Our Chicken Salad is renowned and perfect for a picnic on the beach at Wile's Lake Park — right next door. We also carry a selection of local craft jams, pickles, mustards, honey, maple syrup, and more - made by us or sourced from our favourite local producers.
